2027 recruit includes Longhorns in his top eight

As Texas Longhorns football looks to add to their 2027 class, they got encouraging news on the recruiting front on Monday. Four-star defensive back Isala Wily-Ava arrowed his list down to eight teams and included the Longhorns. With plenty of holes to fill on defense, the St. John Bosco product would be a welcome addition.

While the latest update is a cause for celebration, Texas still has work to do. The other teams on Wily-Ava’s list are Michigan, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Oregon, Hawaii, Tennessee, and Washington. That is not an easy list of programs to go to battle with.

Currently, the California native is ranked as the 21st-best safety in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 184th-best player in his class. The high ranking comes as no surprise, given how Wily-Ava has frustrated offensive coordinators on a regular basis.

During his high school career, the potential future star has made headlines for his speed and open-field tackling. He is also not afraid to be physical and has shown a unique combination of range, ball skills, instincts, and hitting ability. That should translate to the college game and the SEC if Wily-Ava ends up in the Forty Acres.

At the moment, the Longhorns do not have a commitment from a player in the 2027 class. That’s why getting Wily-Ava to campus would be a major win for Steve Sarkisian and his staff. They have also been busy connecting with some of the best players in the 2027 class, such as Tyson Robinson, Caden Waye, Noah Roberts, Nick Lennear, Jaden Upshaw, and Alvin Mosley.

For Texas, the next step will be to get Wily-Ava to Austin for an official visit. If they can do that, then they will be able to show him why his football career should include a stop with the Longhorns.
