As the Longhorns continue to build for the future, head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff received encouraging news on the recruiting front on Thursday. Four-star recruit Karlos May released his top 12 and included the Longhorns. As Texas looks to add to its 2027 class, May would be a massive addition to the defense.
While it is a good sign for Texas that they are in May’s latest update, they do face the competition. The other programs still in the running are Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Missouri, Oregon, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Florida State, South Carolina, and Auburn. That interest in the Alabama native comes as no surprise due to his potential.
Although May has battled injuries in high school, he has been good when healthy. During his freshman campaign, he recorded 15 tackles, including five for a loss. The Ramsay High star also added two sacks and one fumble recovery to his resume. Due to his play, scouts view May as one of the best players in his class.
Currently, the 2027 recruit is ranked as the 47th-best defensive lineman in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 15th-best player from Alabama. Over the next few months, May could see his stock grow once he shakes off the rust of missing all of the 2024 season.
At the moment, the Longhorns have not secured a commitment from a player in the 2027 class. However, they have been busy connecting with some of the top prospects in the nation. The Longhorns have made offers to David Gabriel Georges, Tyson Robinson, Caden Waye, Nick Lennear, Brock Williams, and Kennedy Brown. With more talent on the board, that list could continue to grow.
For Texas, the next step will be to get May to campus for a visit. If they can do that, then Sarkisian and his staff will be able to show the potential future star what his future as a Longhorn could hold.
