Ontario survives, Clear Fork's Evans has insane day, Cougars cruise in Week 6 football

MANSFIELD — It was an interesting week of high school football in Richland County.

Week 6 saw Richland County teams go 5-4 with some close wins, some narrow losses and a few running clocks. Let’s check out how each team performed as well as some scores from leagues around the area.

Ontario 27, Pleasant 24

The Ontario Warriors squeaked one out in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference to get back in the win column.

Jon Mahon caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Trey Remy while Cardae Brown matched that with a 25-yard TD catch of his own. Gavin Miller added a 2-yard rushing touchdown while Kooper Kilgore connected on field goals of 42 and 41 yards.

The Warriors improve to 3-3 on the year and 1-2 in the MOAC. They travel to Marion Harding in Week 7.

Clear Fork 31, Marion Harding 7

The Colts remained locked in a tie for first place in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Colts took a 7-0 lead when Marcus Hoeflich hit Nash Evans for a 39-yard touchdown with 2:22 left in the opening quarter. Hoeflich and Evans hooked up again with 2:49 left in the second quarter, this time on a 75-yard bomb to make it 14-0. Evans added a 25-yard field goal with 5 seconds left in the half to send the Colts into the locker room with a 17-0 lead.

Evans returned the second-half kickoff 91 yards for a TD before Marcus Hoeflich added a 12-yard fumble return for a score to make it 31-0. The Colts scored twice in 47 seconds to start the second half.

Hoeflich completed 5 of 13 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns while Evans caught three passes for 126 yards and two scores. Hoeflich ran for 57 yards on 13 attempts while Porter Schmidt added 45 yards on 13 attempts. The Colts piled up 284 yards of total offense and held the Presidents to just 116 yards.

The Colts improve to 5-1 and 3-0 in the MOAC. They travel to Shelby with sole possession of first place on the line.

Crestview 42, Plymouth 0

Bransen Hider started things off with a 2-yard touchdown run before Wyatt Barber added a 20-yard score to make it 14-0 at the end of the opening quarter.

The Cougars got a 3-yard run from Ayden Reymer to take a 21-0 lead into halftime. Liam Kuhn tossed three touchdown passes in the third quarter, connecting with Max Durbin on a 60-yarder, Reymer on a 67-yarder and Karter Goon on a 10-yard strike.

Kuhn finished the day 8-for-10 for 178 yards and three touchdowns while running for 23 yards on three carries. Reymer was the leading rusher with 82 yards on eight carries while Hider had 40 yards on six touches, Barber had 47 yards on four carries and Gavin Webb had 36 yards on three carries. Durbin caught two passes for 69 yards while Reymer had one catch for 67.

The Cougars improved to 4-2 on the year and 3-0 in the Firelands Conference. They host St. Paul in Week 7 in a massive Firelands Conference battle.

Elgin 18, Lucas 15

The Cubs suffered a second straight loss and the fourth in five games to fall to 2-4 on the season. They travel to Amanda-Cleercreek (2-4) in Week 7 for a chance to get back in the win column.
