Canton Woman’s Club luncheon June 28

CANTON − In honor of its 105-year anniversary, the Canton Woman’s Club will hold a “Through the Decades” luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 28 at its historic home at 822 Market Ave. N. Reservations are due June 10.  

The cost for the luncheon is $50 per person, pre-paid reservations only. Pay at the Canton Woman’s Club office between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday by cash, check or credit card. YouthBuild Greater Stark County selected for Solar Jobs Pathway Initiative    

CANTON – YouthBuild Greater Stark County, part of Project REBUILD, has been selected to join the expanded YouthBuild Solar Jobs Pathway Initiative, which includes 17 programs in the U.S.

The initiative, led by YouthBuild Global, aims to provide youth with the skills needed for careers in the solar energy and renewable sectors.    

YouthBuild Greater Stark County will incorporate solar installation, energy efficiency, and green building skills into its programs for young adults ages 16 to 24 who are out of school and unemployed. Participants will gain hands-on training, recognized credentials, and career exposure.

Free concert at Malone

CANTON − The Canton Concert Band will perform at 7 p.m. June 11 at Malone University 2600 Cleveland Ave. NW. Steve Grimo will conduct. Admission is free. 

Comedy and first ladies June 13 

CANTON − The National First Ladies Library will present the Legacy Lecture: Tea Time Tales of Widowed First Ladies with comedian Lauren Howard Hayes from noon to 1 p.m. June 13.

The event is virtual. Tickets are $9. Visit firstladies.org for tickets and more information. 

Movie on Centennial Plaza  

CANTON – The Centennial Plaza Movie Series continues at 7 p.m. June 11 with a showing of “Despicable Me 4.”

A free family-friendly movie will be shown outdoors on Centennial Plaza’s big screen downtown every Wednesday at 7 p.m. through Aug. 13, with pre-movie entertainment beginning at 6:15 p.m.  

Mental illness support groups to meet   

CANTON – The National Alliance on Mental Illness Stark County offers mental health education, support and advocacy to people with mental illness and the family members/natural support. NAMI Stark County offers free support groups.   

Canton For All People gets literacy grant   

CANTON – Canton For All People recently received a $3,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Canton for All People partners to provide quality housing and opportunities.    

Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants aim to support schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center in implementing new literacy initiatives or expanding existing ones. Funding may be used to purchase new technology, books, materials, or software to enhance literacy programs.    

Kids movie Monday at the Palace 

CANTON – The Summer Kids Movie Series at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, begins at 1 p.m. June 16 with a showing of “Moana 2” and continues every Monday through Aug. 4.

Admission is $2. Doors and the box office open at noon. A sensory-friendly showing of the movie will be at 6:30 p.m.

Animal show at Jackson amphitheater 

JACKSON TWP. − Outback Ray and his Amazing Animals show will be at the Nash Family Jackson Amphitheater, 7454 Community Parkway NW, at 10 a.m. June 13.

Everyone is welcome. The show lasts about an hour. Bring a chair or a blanket, as seating is not provided. Pets are not allowed. For more information and other show dates, visit jacksonamphitheater.com. 

Oak Ridge Boys to perform 

LAKE TWP. − The Oak Ridge Boys will perform from 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 13 and 14 at the Hartville Kitchen, 1015 Edison St. NW.

Concert at Duncan Plaza 

MASSILLON − The Massillon Summer Concert Series begins June 12 with Trainwreck Country Band performing at 7 p.m. at Duncan Plaza downtown. Concerts will continue Wednesdays through Aug. 14. 

Parkinson’s Support Group to meet June 12 

NORTH CANTON − The Stark County Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. June 12 at Aultman North Canton Medical Group, Building A (behind Aultman North) at 6046 Whipple Ave. NW.

Katijo Makin, owner/speech language pathologist at Innovative Speech Center, will present “Speech Therapy Programs and Other Therapies for Parkinson’s Disease.” For more information about the support group, call co-leader Marianne Gooding at 330-877-8645.  

Music, food trucks in North Canton   

NORTH CANTON – Ben Gage, who plays Rustbelt folk and blues style, will perform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 12 at North Canton City Hall, 145 N. Main St., as part of the North Canton Summer Series. The event will include food trucks Yummy Pita and Freaky Fruits, and adult beverages.

Wildlife, Springsteen tribute show at Plain amphitheater 

PLAIN TWP. – The Plain Township Amphitheater, 2600 Easton St. NE, will host Jungle Terry’s Wildlife Adventures from 11 a.m. to noon June 10. The show is free.
