Samaje Perine injury doesn’t create fantasy spot for Bengals rookie

There was some slight hope that the Samaje Perine injury for the Cincinnati Bengals could create an interesting opening for an exciting rookie, never mind creating a fantasy football sleeper in the process.

So much for that, though.

With Perine out against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, rookie Tahj Brooks took just one carry attempt, playing seven of the Bengals’ 66 snaps on offense. Chase Brown simply turned into the workhorse back.

Given the way things got out of hand, Kendall Milton actually took more carries than Brooks, rushing twice for two yards.

While Brooks gained five yards on the ground, Brown took 18 carries for 99 yards and caught six of eight targets for 28 yards.

From a fantasy football perspective, Brooks might be worth stashing in things like dynasty leagues. He’s bound to be around for the long term, but the apparent strong ability as a pass-blocker and overall versatility that should keep him around weren’t enough to get him on the field often in a blowout loss.
