Tuesday, Nov. 25
Girls Basketball
Rootstown 55, Firestone 21
In their return to the floor, last year’s Division VI state runner-up was quite impressive. The Rovers outscored the Falcons 21-2 in the opening quarter en route to a comfortable win. Colbie Curall and Cloe Bengtson led Rootstown with 15 and 14 points, respectively, with the latter making all six of her free throws. Elliott Smallfield had a team-high seven rebounds for the Rovers.
Aurora 68, Solon 51
The Greenmen exploded for 23 points in the first quarter to bounce back from a Sunday loss to Warren JFK. Aurora outscored Solon by 11 in the first quarter to build a comfortable lead. Brooke Pierce had a team-high 21 points for the Greenmen (2-1) while Reese Witting (12), Jillian Monastero (11) and Caitlyn Pierce (10) also finished in double figures.
Monday, Nov. 24
Girls Basketball
Ravenna 50, Alliance 15
Davante McKinney recorded his first win as the Ravens’ head coach. Jalysia Thompson played a big role in that with a program-record 30 rebounds to go with 16 points, eight blocks and six steals. Mackenzie Ervin added 18 points, including four 3-pointers, for Ravenna (1-1).
