Man involved in killing at 16 was released from prison, killed again

A man who, as a teenager, was convicted of manslaughter more than a decade ago has been sentenced to 32 years to life in prison for a 2024 killing, court records say.

Marques Brown, 30, was found guilty in January of charges including murder in the killing of 30-year-old Devintre Gill. The jury also convicted Brown of being a felon in possession of a gun.

Gill was found inside a Colerain Township home in May 2024 with a gunshot wound to the head.

On Feb. 26, Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Patrick Dinkelacker imposed the sentence. Brown won’t be eligible for parole until he serves 32 years.

Brown, who was deemed to be a repeat violent offender, was involved in the fatal shooting of a man in 2012 during a robbery, court documents say. He was 16 at the time but was prosecuted as an adult.

Brown pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the 2012 case and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
