FREAZEYSBURG – A former retail center, restaurant, and a giant basket of apples are well-known landmarks outside of Frazeysburg.
The iconic Longaberger Homestead is on the market for $5.7 million. The 15.2 acres on Raiders Road has four buildings and is being sold through Lepi & Associates in Zanesville.
The property’s listing includes the former welcome center, retail center, original Dave Longaberger house, the old Homestead restaurant, the giant basket, and the outdoor mini-plaza and brick walkway. It does not include the nearby Crawford Barn and Victorian House.
“It’s pretty amazing,” said Dan Robison, real estate agent with Lepi & Associates. “The buildings are in miraculous shape.”
The welcome center has around 16,000 square feet of space and the retail center has 70,000 square feet, two stories, symmetrical staircases in the lobby, and elevators on both sides.
The former Homestead restaurant is around 7,6000 square feet, Robison noted. With the exception of the carpet, the restaurant is in good condition and nearly ready to be operational, he added.
The expansive parking lot has over 500 spaces, Robison added.
Robison saw a lot of potential in the property and believed it could become any number of new campuses: a big winery, a university branch campus, a senior living facility, a hotel, a church, or even a new shopping center.
Robison estimated that the buildings have been vacant for at least 10 years. The homestead was completed in June 1999.
The empty retail center was once full of baskets and merchandise for sale and even had a bakery and pizza parlor at one point.
Dave Longaberger founded the Longaberger Company in 1973. The company produced handcrafted maple wood baskets and other home products. Each basket was signed by the maker and those signed by Dave have been sought after by collectors for years. At its peak, the company employed more than 8,200 people, not counting its direct sales consultants
The listing and more photos can be found on the Lepi & Associates website.
It’s co-listed by Robison, who can be reached at 740-221-3749 or drobison@lepirealestate.com, and Elyse Luburgh, who can be reached 740-819-1459 or eluburgh@lepirealestate.com.
Longaberger Co. operated in Hartville for more than 30 years before closing the doors in 2008. At its peak, Longaberger employed almost 450 workers in three shifts at the factory.
