The Licking County Courthouse Lighting Committee is bringing Christmas to Newark in July.
The organization is hosting a movie fundraiser at 10 a.m. on July 12 at the Midland Theater, which will screen “The Santa Clause,” according to a news release. It’s the first time the committee is presenting the event, and proceeds will benefit the annual Licking County Courthouse Lighting.
The lighting, which takes place Nov. 28, is in its 77th year.
“This summer fundraiser is a fun and meaningful way to bring our community together in support of a tradition that lights up our hearts as well as our Courthouse,” Licking County Courthouse Lighting Committee Chairman Spencer Barker said in the release. “We invite families, friends and neighbors to join us at the Midland Theatre to help ensure this November’s event is as magical as ever.”
Doors at the theater open at 9:30 a.m. and tickets will be available for purchase on-site. The committee suggests donations at $5 per person or $20 for families of four or more.
Attendees can purchase concessions for $3 at the venue.
The committee is encouraging attendees to arrive early because seating at the venue is open. “Summer Santa” will make a guest appearance at the screening, according to the committee.
The lighting ceremony has traditionally served as the ceremonial start to the holiday season in the area. Hundreds of people attend the event each year.
