Pine, an actor known for lead roles in “Stark Trek Beyond,” “Wonder Woman,” “Into the Woods” and “Hell or High Water,” will star in the film “Carousel” with Jenny Slate.

Christian McCauley, the airport’s marketing and communications manager, confirmed that a crew for the project “Carousel” was filming scenes Sept. 2 in public portions of the airport. It was apparently a one-day shoot.

McCauley referred further questions to a member of the production crew, who had not returned a message seeking more details about the movie as of the morning of Sept. 3.

Who is Jenny Slate?

Jenny Slate has appeared in the movies “I Want You Back,” “Venom” and “Gifted.” She also portrayed Mona-Lisa Saperstein in several episodes of the NBC sitcom, “Parks and Recreation.” Pine, meanwhile, also has starred in “Unstoppable,” “Small Town Saturday Night,” “This Means War,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” and “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

Further details about the movie were unavailable, including the scheduled release date.

Messages seeking more information about “Carousel” were also sent to staffers of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. Cleveland and Northeast Ohio have been the site for major Hollywood films in recent years, including “The Avengers” in 2012 and most recently, “Superman.”

“Carousel” also has been filming in Medina, which caused chatter on the Medina, Ohio News and Street Talk Facebook group. Reports of the movie being filmed on the Medina Square and at Medina High School were posted online last month.

Cleveland is also believed to be another filming location.

In July, WKYC in Cleveland reported that Angela Boehm Casting was looking for extras for “Carousel.”

‘Carousel’ received state funding

“Carousel” was among the feature films receiving grants from the Ohio Department of Development. Listed as a Medina movie project, “Carousel” received $517,137.

The Ohio Department of Development is providing more than $46 million in grants to support 27 film and television productions set to take place throughout the state, including several in the Canton area. The state agency announced the funding on Aug. 12.

The projects include 11 films, four television mini-series, five full television series, four Broadway/theater productions, two documentaries and one classified as digital media. Awards were issued through the Motion Picture Tax Credit Program.

The two films set to be produced in North Canton are: “10 Cent,” which received $3,657,702, and “The Christmastyme Traveller,” which received $3,066,631.

The film being produced in Canton, titled “Sunny,” received $8,483,314. The other Canton project was a TV mini-series listed as the “Buggy and Beyond Entertainment LLC Project,” which received $757,800.

The state agency said it expected the projects “to create more than 1,000 new jobs, contribute more than $150 million in eligible production spending, and drive $196 million in production-related expenses.”

“When productions choose Ohio, they put our communities on the global stage,” Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development, said in a prepared statement “Through the Motion Picture Tax Credit Program, we’re telling Ohio’s story to the world while creating new jobs and growing local economies.”
