The Cleveland Browns have set themselves up for one of the wildest quarterback battles as they get into the second week of OTAs. Entering a four-way battle, it is too early to tell what the outcome is, but we can see where it is starting.
The Browns brought back 2023 hero Joe Flacco and drafted two young quarterbacks in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. However, it is currently Kenny Pickett getting first-team snaps in Wednesday’s OTAs.
It is far too early to give any of this credence, as the Browns are going to cycle through reps, and the players taking those key reps. It’s June. Training camp does not even start for another month and a half. Jumping to any snap decisions at this point in the process would be a foolish thing to do.
However, it is worth putting a pin in it to see who got the first crack. Joe Flacco then took the second reps, followed by the two rookies.
Acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a fifth round pick, Pickett is entering his first season in Cleveland after spending his first three in the state of Pennsylvania. He was originally drafted in the first round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022.
It is unlikely that a rookie opens the season as the Week 1 starter for the Browns, leaving Pickett or Flacco as the likely options. What the bigger question is, however, is which of the four quarterbacks isn’t on the roster by Week 1?
