The messy Cincinnati Bengals offensive line situation remains cluttered.
Interior offensive line has been a point of anxiety for fans all offseason, even with third-round rookie Dylan Fairchild showing flashes with the first team. Depth remains a concern, too.
The Bengals didn’t do much to make fans feel better over the last week or so, either. For example, fifth-round rookie Jalen Rivers has worked with the second team at right guard despite playing left tackle in the first preseason game.
Cody Ford is back at backup swing tackle after playing guard in the preseason opener, too.
“We’re still very much in the discovery process,” offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Cody did a good job in that role (swing tackle) last year. We scored a lot of points with Cody out there. He has value in that role. We have not decided that yet.” …

Experimentation isn’t unexpected for NFL teams at this point. But the Bengals appear dangerously thin should an injury occur, especially on the interior. One issue and Cordell Volson could be back starting. Ford’s versatility is a boon, too, until problems open up on the edge and inside.
Sometimes it’s never as simple as adding an outside free agent to the mix at this point in the summer. The Bengals have younger guys they really like, such as Matt Lee, Jaxson Kirkland and Seth McLaughlin.
But in Cincinnati, especially, fans have every right to look at the chaos in front of Joe Burrow right now and feel some stress.
