Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow intends to return to the team no matter what their record is this season, says a new report.
Also tucked into that report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport?
When Burrow returns, he won’t have “full mobility,” which will likely force the team into overhauling the playbook:
“Whenever he returns to game-action, the likelihood is he’ll do so with a metal plate in his shoe and without full mobility, sources say. Burrow and the team will likely have to adjust their standard playbook, but that would be worth it to have Burrow back.”

Call it an interesting twist of fate, then, that the Bengals already gradually put tweaks into the playbook here and there for Joe Flacco.
Even before this report, given the effectiveness of the offense under Flacco, there was some question as to whether Burrow and the Bengals would reconsider the makeup of the offense. The big numbers and the idea it could keep him healthier, more often, is a big part of the conversation.
For now, though, the big note is Burrow likely not being his usual play-extending self if he returns this season. That could change the look of the offense at least a little, though that’s not as tough in Cincinnati as it would be for most teams thanks to a cerebral player like Burrow and weapons like Chase and Higgins.
