Bengals could find help with waived former Pro Bowl player

The Cincinnati Bengals seem dug in with the current roster after a lack of moves at the NFL trade deadline, beyond shipping away former captain Logan Wilson amid a defensive implosion.

But perhaps a new addition to the waiver wire could help improve that disaster of a defense.

The Tennessee Titans waived safety Quandre Diggs this week, exposing the 32-year-old veteran to waivers. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Diggs asked for and was granted his release.

The Bengals aren’t usually in on 30-plus free agents, but maybe Diggs can be an exception as an affordable, short-term move that could help the defense.

Al Golden’s defense continues to insist on a youth movement despite a bad overall roster, which includes the safety tandem of Geno Stone and Jordan Battle. Diggs hasn’t been perfect this year, but he’s a three-time Pro Bowler with a history of making big plays.

If nothing else, perhaps this is the type of small move the Bengals should be looking to make to tweak the defense while still developing in spots where they can. It could be one of those little veteran leadership and quality snap things that helps the unit perform at least near an average level, potentially keeping things afloat while they wait on a possible Joe Burrow return.
