Should the New York Jets consider starting Brady Cook at some point?

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has made the decision to start veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12.

Justin Fields has officially been benched following his latest lackluster performance. Despite that, Glenn isn’t ready to make multiple changes to his quarterback depth chart.

Fields will be Taylor’s backup in Baltimore. Undrafted rookie quarterback Brady Cook will remain the No. 3 signal-caller for now.

The rebuilding Jets should eventually promote Cook, perhaps even offering him an opportunity to start later in the season.

It goes without saying that the 36-year-old Taylor is not the Jets’ quarterback of the future.

Fields is being benched because he’s also proven that he’s not the long-term solution. Cook probably isn’t either, but as a 24-year-old rookie, he possesses the most upside and untapped potential of any quarterback on the roster.

Cook went 25-of-38 throughout the preseason, completing 65.8 percent of his exhibition passes. The former Missouri standout threw for 235 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Cook was re-signed to the Jets’ practice squad after failing to make the 53-man roster.

Glenn could feel Cook is a raw rookie who is still developing.

Given the quarterback situation, it would be intriguing to see Cook get an opportunity at some point. For now, he remains on the practice squad with Fields being demoted to backup quarterback duties.

Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2025 season.
