New York Comic Con is here. What to know about the Columbus Day weekend lineup

You can get a sneak peak at new “Star Trek” and Marvel shows — and more. You can make slime from “Ghostbusters.” And actors and creators from across pop culture are slated to be on hand to give autographs, take photos or talk about the craft.

It’s New York Comic Con and runs through Sunday, Oct. 12, at Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Convention Center. It’s well known for attendees who come to cosplay — costumed as iconic characters from science fiction, fiction, fantasy, comic books, video games, and more.

But the event also has a lot to offer more casual and first-time visitors, from events for franchise juggernauts such as “Star Wars” to more niche fandoms for anime, comic books, and novelists of fiction, science fiction and fantasy.

There are panels, exhibitors and more. Note that autograph sessions mentioned on one day may also occur on subsequent days. And check Comic Con’s website about various pricing and scheduling.

Here’s a random selection of some of what’s in store, based on Comic Con’s online schedule, for those who buy tickets.

What’s happening at NY Comic Con on Friday

There’s the “Ghostbuster Training Center Slime Lab”: “Step into the Slime Lab and create your own slime samples (nontoxic and mostly not haunted), get an up-close look at the tools of the paranormal elimination trade (though the proton pack is not a toy), and take photos with a playful backdrop inspired by The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. There will be a variety of prizes and original merchandise,” the event description said.
