Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has been having a solid fifth season in the NBA as he seeks to improve his value prior to becoming an unrestricted free-agent next summer. While Brooklyn picked up its first win of the 2025-26 season on Wednesday in its 112-103 win at the Indiana Pacers, Thomas suffered a left hamstring injury that has some unknowns at the moment.
“He’s doing good. We’ll re-evaluate [him] tomorrow, but he was great in the locker room. We missed him. This team needs his aggressiveness and the reality is when you have the support from a player that is also out, that also always helps,” Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez said following the victory. Thomas played six minutes in the contest before suffering what the team described was left hamstring tightness that ruled him out for the rest of the game.
“He was very happy for the win. Hopefully, we can have him back very soon. If not, we’ll do whatever it takes. His health is the number one priority for us. We’ll go from there, next man up if need be,” Fernandez continued. “I cannot really comment on it [the nature of Thomas’ injury]. It’s just tightness. We haven’t announced anything else. So, we’ll give you guys more information.”
Thomas, 24, is averaging 21.4 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 40.2% from the field and 35.6% from three-point land in eight games played, including Wednesday. Part of the reason that Thomas’ hamstring could be a reason to be concerned is because he played just 25 games last season due to several instances of a left hamstring strain that eventually ended his 2024-25 season prematurely.
If Thomas is unable to play in Friday’s game against the Detroit Pistons, Fernandez will be forced to field a different starting lineup for the fourth straight game as he seeks to continue the winning ways. As of this writing, it seems that the starting lineup will be Terance Mann, Michael Porter Jr., Noah Clowney, and Nic Claxton with the potential of Tyrese Martin sliding into the starting point guard role once again.
