A Pennsylvania man will serve a state prison sentence for the death of Jeffrey Aissa, a 17-year-old who was killed in a 2011 Binghamton fire.
Jeremiah Raub, of New Milford, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 20 years to life in Broome County Court on Nov. 21, three months after he was found guilty of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree arson following a week-long jury trial.

Raub was accused of setting a recycling bin on fire on the front porch of 20 Milford St. in Binghamton on March 17, 2011. The blaze spread fast, soon entering the home and killing Aissa who was unable to escape.
Law enforcement officials determined the fire had been set intentionally and the case remained cold for years until Raub’s confession to police on March 22, 2023.
Raub’s first trial in the case, which began in January 2025, ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a verdict following nearly 20 hours of deliberation.
Raub was sentenced by Broome County Judge Carol A. Cocchiola to 20 years to life in state prison for second-degree murder, just five years shy of the maximum penalty. He was also sentenced to 20 years to life for the first count of first-degree arson and 20 years to life for the second count of first-degree arson.
The sentences will run concurrently.
