Headed into the city to watch the 99th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade? You’ll want to bundle up.
According to a National Weather Service forecast, New Yorkers can expect a dry parade day, but it could get quite windy, making it feel a lot colder in the city.
“Dry but brisk conditions are expected for Thanksgiving Day,” the NWS said in a forecast for the tri-state area. “Westerly winds will gust at 25-35 mph. High temperatures will be below normal, only in the mid 40s, and wind chills will remain in the 30s all day.”
Manhattan forecast for Thanksgiving Day
If you’re following the parade on foot, you can look forward to mostly sunny skies Thanksgiving Day. High temperatures in areas along the parade route, including Central Park, Columbus Circle, 42nd Street and Herald Square will near 44 degrees. A westerly wind will blow 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as strong as 33 mph.

AccuWeather forecasts mostly sunny conditions and west to west-southwest winds during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. With the skies brightening and the holiday crowds filling Manhattan, the 99th annual event should keep its usual energy — balloons and all.
“Bundle up if you’re heading out to the parade,” AccuWeather’s Lead Long Range Expert Paul Pasteloksaid in a news release.“It will be cold and blustery, with AccuWeather RealFeel Temperatures in the 30s. You’ll definitely want to wear a hat and gloves. Wind gusts could reach 20 to 30 mph Thursday morning in New York City. The wind tunnel effect between buildings could make it feel even stronger in some spots.
“The balloons should be able to fly, but they may be kept closer to the ground. If stronger winds forecast for the afternoon arrive a few hours early, plans to fly the larger balloons could be impacted,” he added.
