Jackson St. Lawrence of Goshen and Anna Furman of Tri-Valley were the lead finishers among Mid-Hudson high school runners competing at the New York State Federation cross country championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls on Saturday, November 22.
St. Lawrence, a junior, completed the challenging, hilly 3.1-mile course at Bowdoin in 16 minutes, 20 seconds, some 39 seconds after the victorious Claudel Marc Chery of North Rockland won the race.
Furman, the reigning two-time state public school Class D champ, was 20th in the girls race at 18:54.0, 74 seconds following winner Leyla Bhusri of Shenendehowa.
In the team competition, the Cornwall girls were ninth, Kingston 16th and Monroe-Woodbury 17th. For the boys, Monroe-Woodbury was 10th and Arlington 16th.
The Federation championship bring together the top teams and runners from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA); New York City’s Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL); the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA); and, Association of Independent Schools (AIS).
