Another injury, another former Buffalo Bills player brought back in the fold to add depth.
General manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott have decided to tap into pass rusher Shaq Lawson this time.
Lawson, 31, has signed up for a third stint in Buffalo, this time joining the team’s practice squad. The team announced his signing on Tuesday:
Recently, defensive end Joey Bosa has played through a wrist injury which has limited his movement on the defensive front.
Lawson’s addition would come as less of a surprise had this been last season. However, Lawson has appeared in just one game since the conclusion of the 2023 season, his last stint in Buffalo. The Carolina Panthers cut him last October and he has not caught on with another team since.
It’s unclear what Lawson’s immediate impact could be since he has not played in a game in so long. In addition, Morgan Fox signed to Buffalo’s practice squad earlier this month and is likely more up to speed.
Phillips joins the likes of Tre’Davious White, Jordan Poyer, Gabe Davis and Jordan Phillips as former Bills players to re-sign with the team in 2025.
Lawson was Buffalo’s first-round pick during the 2016 NFL draft at No. 19 overall. He has 26.0 sacks and 77 quarterback hits to his credit.
