Ever the optimist since taking his position as the head coach of the New York Jets, even an 0-4 start to his tenure is not going to get Aaron Glenn down.
Despite a 27-21 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 4, another winless team at the time, and prior to welcoming the Dallas Cowboys (1-2-1) to MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Glenn’s positivity reaches multiple levels.
Overall, Glenn believes there is “going to be a breakthrough” with his team soon.
How could the Jets get there? With help from his quarterback in Justin Fields, Glenn said.
“He played pretty well,” Glenn said reflecting on Fields’ efforts against the Dolphins. “I thought he spun the ball well as far as getting the ball to his receivers.
“With his arm and his legs. We want to build off of that,” Glenn added. “He’s played two games where he was really, really solid.”
Fields was 20-for-27 passing for 226 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Fields had another 81 yards, including an explosive 42-yard touchdown run.
While New York only lost by one score in Miami, the game never really felt that close. There is still a sizable gap the Jets need to close with their opponents.
Even so, Fields is siding with his coach’s mindset.
“I think everybody in this locker room is in good spirits. We’re ready to get back to work this week and go out there Sunday and play ball,” Fields said.
