Iowa vs. Michigan State predictions, picks, odds

If you are the Iowa Hawkeyes, this is a classic case where all you have to do is not overthink. This game matches up incredibly well for the Hawkeyes in both areas of strength.

Iowa runs the ball well. This is no surprise. Even when teams know it’s coming, the Hawkeyes still get a push. They should be able to do so in this game against a Spartans’ defense that tends to get gashed on the ground. Iowa can turn back the clock and lean on Mark Gronowskipaired with Kamari Moulton and Jaziun Patterson, moving the chains.

On defense, Iowa’s front seven has a clear advantage. Iowa is among the nation’s best in run defense, and Michigan State doesn’t run the ball particularly well. Expect Iowa to play a vanilla style of defense on early downs that forces Michigan State to throw the ball on passing downs, which is a dangerous proposition against the Hawkeyes.

Iowa picks up its seventh win of the season in a matchup that exercises a lot of pent-up frustration from close losses. Iowa 31, Michigan State 10
