This $2.3 million Urbandale home features indoor basketball court, rock-climbing wall

Hidden behind a luxury home for sale at the end of an Urbandale cul-de-sac, sits a 12-acre private woodland oasis protecting a one-mile walking trail carved through the trees.

“It’s really unique to find that many acres in town,” added Realtor Mitch Dunn.

Located directly north of Meredith Drive and providing quick and convenient access to Grimes, Clive and Waukee, the 1 1/2 story, $2,375,000 property fills 4,748 square feet, and offers an additional 3,185 square feet in the finished basement that conceals yet another surprise.

Inside a partial basketball court, residents have installed an indoor rock-climbing wall, and a staircase leading to an exercise room with a mirrored wall. If new owners are striving for extra adventurous activity, the pathway winding through the outdoor wilderness is wide enough to accommodate 4-wheelers and small vehicles.

“The sellers built the home in 2014 and then they bought the two parcels behind it,” Dunn explained. “They didn’t spare any expense.”

Carefully landscaped front and back yards surround the five-bedroom, six-bathroom residence and an attached, 1,304-square-foot four-car garage is upgraded with two EV chargers.

On the main level, a family space and stone-faced fireplace both rise 20 feet to the ceiling. Next to the entrance, a home office includes an abundance of shelving and storage drawers. An alcove has been set aside as a mudroom and drop zone for clothing, and the laundry room provides a convenient pet shower to clean animals before they walk on the hardwood flooring found in every room.

Two ovens are included in the open-plan kitchen, centered around a four-stool central island facing cabinets that skillfully camouflage a walk-in pantry.

Also on the first floor, the primary bedroom was created to take advantage of the backyard views, and adds walk-in closets and a heated floor bathroom with a soaking tub and tiled shower.

Three more bedrooms are installed upstairs, each with its own bathroom and walk-in closet, and an extra bedroom is included on the lower level.

Downstairs, the open layout has previously been used as a family game room, with a wet bar and island seating, and an entertainment space for watching television.

An enclosed rear patio includes a fireplace and is prepped with a gas line for easy installation of an outdoor grill. The hot tub is reached by a short walk down limestone steps.

While it is possible to install a water feature, the incline down to the woodland might create difficulties for building a larger swimming pool, but Dunn suggested “an infinity pool,” would easily fit in the space.

Expecting interest from out-of-state buyers, and medical professionals drawn to the career opportunities within the local community, Dunn described this home as among the “top three” houses in the Bent Creek Estates neighborhood, recognized locally for its seven-figure properties.

The home is listed at $2,375,000 by Mitch Dunn and Marc Lee of RE/MAX Precision. Contact Dunn at 515-371-5002, for more information and a private showing.
