Iowa State basketball player Tamin Lipsey injured in St. John's game

Iowa State basketball player Tamin Lipsey was injured during Monday’s game against St. John’s and left the contest.

Lipsey got tangled up with a St. John’s player and appeared to sustain a leg injury with about two minutes left in the second half. He was on the floor for a few minutes before being helped up and walking to the locker room.

Lipsey walked back to the Cyclones bench during a timeout with 37 seconds left but did not return to the game. The Cyclones won 83-82.

This is the first of three games in Las Vegas for the Cyclones.

Coach T.J. Otzelberger said after the game that Lipsey is considered day-to-day and will be evaluated further when the Cyclones return to their hotel.

“In regards to Lipsey, we’re still evaluating,” Otzelberger said. “Training staff, medical staff just told us it’s going to be a day-to-day, lower-body extremities. So I don’t have great detail on it. We haven’t had time to really, truly evaluate him over time. So we’ll get back to the hotel, check them out and see what that means.”

The Register’s Eugene Rapay, on site in Las Vegas, contributed to this report.
