Iowa vs. Michigan State prediction, pick:
Michigan State doesn’t stop teams very well, nor do they score much. The Spartans are No. 92 in scoring offense and No. 115 in scoring defense. They now get to try and score on an Iowa defense ranked No. 9 in scoring defense, giving up just 14.9 points per game.
The Iowa offense also has life, coming in slightly above the halfway mark at No. 62 in scoring offense at 28.7 points per game.
The Spartans only run for 3.7 yards per carry, while Iowa only gives up 3.2 yards per carry. The Hawkeyes should be able to force Michigan State into passing downs for most of this game and pin their ears back in the pass rush.
Offensively, Iowa should be able to go full-on Iowa in this game. Iowa is churning out 177 yards per game on the ground at 4.6 yards per carry. Michigan State is getting gashed for 154 yards per game at 4.5 yards per carry allowed.
While Michigan State will give the nod to Alessio Milivojevic at quarterback, who has started the last two weeks, the Hawkeyes should be able to cause some issues that can generate turnovers.
This is a classic Iowa game in November inside Kinnick Stadium, where Iowa can turn back the clock a bit with an old-school game of running the ball, playing stout defense, and slowly taking the life out of Michigan State.
