Iowa football holds, Nebraska slides in this week's USA TODAY Re-Rank

It may not have been the prettiest of wins for the Iowa Hawkeyes when they hit a walk-off field goal to take down the Michigan State Spartans, but it might have been the sweetest of the year. All season long, Iowa has been on the wrong side of bad breaks and close games. To get one to go their way on Senior Day was sweet.

It also moved Iowa to 7-4 on the season with a rivalry week matchup on the road against the Nebraska Cornhuskers to finish out the 2025 regular season before heading to a bowl game. The win didn’t do much for Iowa’s overall resume as it was a tight one against a bad team, therefore, like the US LBM Coaches Poll, the Hawkeyes remain outside the top 25 in the weekly USA TODAY Re-Rank as well.

Iowa is barely outside the top 25 this week, sitting at No. 26 in the re-rank with the season finale on Black Friday approaching. That game presents Iowa with an opportunity to achieve another eight-win regular season and the chance to cap off the year with a ninth win in a bowl game, which is a rather succesful year when looking at teams across the country.

The Hawkeyes’ opponent, and one of their biggest rivals, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, sit at 7-4 as well, but dropped eight spots in this week’s rankings down to No. 44 after a road trip to Penn State saw them get beat handily, by a score of 37-10.

The Iowa Hawkeyes and Nebraska Cornhuskers kickoff this Friday, November 28, at 11 a.m. CT, from Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska in a Big Ten rivalry matchup that will be airing nationally on CBS.
