Drivers on Interstate 80 will encounter a closed interstate and detours in Des Moines’ western suburbs.
Eastbound Interstate 80 will be closed overnight on Thursday, Oct. 2, between Waukee and West Des Moines for construction work, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
When will the Iowa DOT close part of Interstate 80?
Beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, until 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, weather permitting, crews will close Interstate 80 between Grand Prairie Parkway in Waukee and the southwest mixmaster in West Des Moines.
What detour should I take when the Iowa DOT closes mixmaster ramps?
Drivers will need to exit I-80 at Grand Prairie Parkway and take marked detours to reach other interstates or reconnect with eastbound I-80.
The detour to reach southbound Interstate 35 or eastbound Interstate 235 will head north on Grand Prairie Parkway and east on University Avenue. From there, drivers can head south on I-35 and use the southwest mixmaster to reach I-235.
Drivers trying to reach northbound I-35 or eastbound I-80 will head north on Grand Prairie Parkway, east on University Avenue, north on 100th Street and then west on Hickman Road/U.S. Highway 6 to reach I-80/35.
