A boy died and a motorcycle rider was hospitalized after a Des Moines crash Saturday night, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash, which happened around 11 p.m. on Sept. 20, was at 4950 Northeast 29th Street.

“Deputies arrived within minutes and immediately began lifesaving measures, including CPR, on a male juvenile who had been struck by a motorcycle while crossing the roadway,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Fire and rescue officials arrived soon after and tried to save the boy. “The juvenile was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.”
The release said the motorcycle rider, a 23-year-old from Albia, Iowa, “was transported to a local hospital and is currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.”
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office traffic investigators and detectives were investigating the crash’s cause.
