The No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish had a historic win against the Syracuse Orange on Senior Day, and while there were more than five stars, these players and coaches were the ones who stood out the most in the 70-7 blowout.
These five players and team units led the way against Syracuse.
5 – Jeremiyah Love
Once again, Notre Dame’s most dangerous weapon had a huge game. He didn’t even touch the ball in the first few minutes of the game, because the defense and special teams were busy scoring. But once he did, he finished with 171 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries. That’s a 21.4-yard per carry average, and Love’s longest was a 68-yard dash for his third and final touchdown.
4 – Jalen Stroman
Pressed into heavier action with Tae Johnson out, Stroman had a pick-six on Syracuse’s second play of the game and blocked a punt on the next Orange drive — that latter play also led to a touchdown as Luke Talich recovered the ball and ran it in. Stroman was also all over the game — the safety had eight solo tackles, two of which went for a loss.
3 – Jadarian Price
Backup running back Jadarian Price was also difficult to stop — he had 70 yards on just four carries and one of those was a 58-yard touchdown. He averaged 17.5 yards per carry.
2 – Notre Dame’s defense
Two pick-sixes (and a third called back on a penalty). Three picks. A Syracuse offense that couldn’t do anything until the game was almost over. Chris Ash’s unit has come along way since causing Irish fans to panic the first two weeks of the season. Even injuries haven’t slowed the Irish.
1 – Leonard Moore
Moore was generally quiet — that’ll happen when your defense is dominating and you can rest in the second half — but he had the pick-six that really finished off the Orange. His pick-six made it 21-0 and effectively ensured the rout would be on.
