The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Josiah Villarreal Madrid, 17, of Henderson, Kentucky.

Among the other two injured, one was a juvenile and another was adult. They’ve been hospitalized. Police haven’t disclosed the extent of their injuries or released their identities.

According to a news release from Evansville police spokesman Sgt. Anthony Aussieker, crews were dispatched to a home in the 1700 block of Marshall Avenue around 5:30 a.m. after 911 callers reported hearing gunshots in the area.

“Officers arrived and found three people who had been shot,” the release states. “All three were transported to area hospitals, however one victim did not survive their injuries.”

Wednesday marked the second deadly shooting in Evansville in the last four days. On Saturday, an Evansville police officer shot and killed 58-year-old Everett Nunn after responding to a report of a fight on East Louisiana Street. Initial reports in that shooting stated Nunn was holding something officers believed to be a gun. During a news conference Monday, police said he was actually holding a novelty smoking pipe made to look like a firearm.

Wednesday’s shooting remains under investigation. As of Wednesday evening, no arrests had been made.
