While Notre Dame football saw both major polls moving a team over the Irish, many wondered if that would be the same result with the College Football Playoff rankings.
Well, that was the case, as Notre Dame stayed at No. 9 and like the polls, Oklahoma jumped the Irish after its win over Alabama on the road this past weekend. It wasn’t the best case scenario for the Blue and Gold, but not the worst either.
The good news for Notre Dame is that they are still in the field, the bad news is that the win over Pittsburgh, who dropped out of the rankings this week, didn’t hold much weight with the committee. It also shows that it’s going to be very hard for the Irish to move up much more than they already are, and if they do stay in the No. 9 slot, they’ll be in the 8-9 matchup and right now that would be the Sooners.
I think that would be a very advantageous matchup for Notre Dame, even though they’d be on the road in the first round. Time will tell who ultimately ends up being the Irish’s opponent, but it’s a great sign that they’re firmly in the field of 12-teams.
