BLOOMINGTON — No. 17 Indiana volleyball was not going to be hurt in the RPI or potential NCAA tournament host position after Saturday’s 19-25, 16-25, 22-25 loss to No. 1 Nebraska (28-0, 18-0 Big Ten).
The Hoosiers (22-6, 13-5) are set to make their sixth NCAA tournament in program history, and first in 15 years. That is also the only time they hosted the first and second rounds.
When the NCAA selection committee released its top 16 teams in mid-October, the Hoosiers were 14th — where they remain in the RPI — and the movement around them could lead to them again hosting the NCAA tournament, though a win at Illinois on Wednesday could do better to serve those hopes.
Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers left Wilkinson Hall preserving their hopes to be the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed with their 23rd sweep of the season. Harper Murray led the way with a match-high 11 kills (.296) and Virginia Adriano had nine on an efficient .412. Andi Jackson also had nine kills (.538).
IU’s Candela Alonso-Corcelles had a team-high 10 kills (.083) to lead the Hoosiers.

Senior Candela Alonso-Corcelles has a team-high seven kills but is hitting .037. Avry Tatum has four kills and is at .273. Madi Sell is 4 for 5 (.800).
IU is hit .000 in the second set and is at .075 for the match with 14 attack error and five service errors. It also has just one block.

The Huskers have taken a 25-19, 25-16 lead into the halftime break. Quite a response after trailing 9-6 in the first set and withstood a six-point run in the second, which IU took a 9-7 lead with.

The Hoosiers take another timeout, trailing 22-15 in the second set. Right after Sade Ilawole came in, the third rally was a marathon with IU pushing toward the pop-up banners on the back line. It was the most excited this crowd had been. The point ended with a Bekah Allick kill.

Talk about a change-up, sophomore setter Sade Ilawole at 5 foot 3 comes in to run the IU offense as a change of pace for 6-2 freshman Teodora Krickovic. The response was a kill on a pass to Avry Tatum and another point off a Jaidyn Jager ace.

The Huskers have scored five straight with the last three on attack errors by the Hoosiers. Though coach Steve Aird is challenging there was a touch on the last error by Jaidyn Jager.

The Cornhuskers are first to 15 with a 15-11 lead in Set 2. IU is hitting 6-6-21 (.000) in the set, still struggling to find space in the Nebraska defense. Meanwhile, the Huskers are .304 in this set, slightly down from Set 1.

It looked like the Huskers might run away with the second set, but then IU answered with six straight. Setter Bergen Reilly’s dump for a kill ended that run and Nebraska pushed itself back in front shortly after. Quite a response from Reilly after a couple of bad sets.

Candela Alonso Corcelles (.091) and Madi Sell (.750), the two seniors, led the Hoosiers with three kills apiece. Freshman phenom Jaidyn Jager had just one on 11 swings and hit minus-.182. IU hit .143 for the set with 10 kills on 35 swings.

Virginia Adriano led the Cornhuskers with six kills (.364) and was followed by Harper Murray with five (.444). Nebraska had 17 kills on 36 swings (.306) and had four blocks.

The senior moved to the front row and Candela Alonso-Corcelles brought a big kill to side out. That made it 20-15 but a pair of points by Taylor Landfair and Harper Murray, out of the back row no less, forced another Steve Aird timeout.

Harper Murray has come on strong with a couple of kills during this 9-3 Nebraska push. It was tied at 11 before IU coach Steve Aird was forced to use one of his timeouts. Murray has four kills on eight swings (.375).

Virginia Adriano has a match-high three kills. Middle Andi Jackson is a perfect 2-for-2 and the Huskers have taken a 15-11 lead in the first set. Quite a reversal from trailing 10-5 and then winning a challenge to make it a 9-6 deficit.
IU has been held to hitting .045 and has struggled to find attack errors not covered by Nebraska’s defense.

The Hoosiers have a strong attack this season. Senior Candela Alonso-Corcelles is ninth in the Big Ten in kills per set with 3.57 per. Her setter, freshman Teodora Krickovic, is second in the league at 10.81 assists per set. She is behind Wisconsin’s Charlie Fuerbringer (11.55).
