Breaking: Notre Dame to be without key starting defender vs. Syracuse

It wasn’t good news for Notre Dame football on Friday afternoon, as it was announced that they’ll be without one of its star defenders after finding out on Thursday they’ll be without others also.

The official Notre Dame Football PR Team shared that safety Tae Johnson will be out for this weekends contest against Syracuse, as he will miss the game due to a left hand injury. The redshirt freshman has burst upon the scene with 48 tackles (No. 3 on the team) and 4 interceptions (team leader).

While it will hurt the Irish to be without Johnson, the good news is that safety is one of the deepest position groups. Jalen Stroman and JaDon Blair are listed as his backups, so expect to see plenty of them tomorrow. It’s most likely the smart move for head coach Marcus Freeman, as there is no need to push any injured players with a far inferior opponent in the Orange.
