Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has identified the person killed in a Saturday night shooting at a Peoria apartment complex as Matthew Day, 17, of Peoria. An unidentified 21-year-old male was also wounded in the incident.
Peoria police officers responded to reports of shots fired at Lexington Hills Apartments in the 3400 block of West Oakcrest Drive at about 11:25 p.m. Saturday, according to the Peoria Police Department. While officers were en route to the scene, dispatch advised them that there were two possible victims.
Upon arrival, officers located Day inside of an apartment. First responders initiated emergency life-saving measures as he was unresponsive and had suffered two gunshot wounds to the torso. Day was transported to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center via ambulance and was later pronounced dead.
Police located the 21-year-old male inside a nearby apartment. The male suffered gunshot wounds to his legs and was transported to a local hospital where his condition is considered stable.
