Tallahassee man convicted on federal firearm charges

A Tallahassee man was convicted in federal court on firearms related charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Sincere M. Perkins, 25, was found guilty Nov. 25 of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a machine gun, a news release said.

“Thanks to the outstanding collaboration between our local and federal law enforcement partners to investigate this case and this successful prosecution by my office, our community will be made safer while this violent felon finds himself in federal prison,” U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin of the Northern District of Florida said in a statement.

Evidence at trial demonstrated that members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force located Perkins at an apartment in Tallahassee because of an outstanding warrant for his arrest, the release said. A search found multiple firearms, including a pistol that had been modified to fire as a machine gun.

Ballistics from two of the recovered firearms matched shell casings from a prior shooting in Quincy. Perkin’s DNA was found on both firearms that had been used in the shooting and a recorded jail call revealed that he was knowingly in possession of the firearms despite his status as a previously convicted felon.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 9 at 2:30 p.m. at the U.S. Courthouse in Tallahassee before Chief U.S. District Court Judge Allen C. Windsor. Perkins was represented by Tallahassee attorney Paul M. Villeneuve, court dockets show. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James A. McCain.
