The Florida State Seminoles have 25 players committed to their 2026 recruiting class, but none at edge. They are working to fix that, and Franklin Whitley has emerged as a key target for defensive line coach Terrance Knighton.
The Seminoles extended him a scholarship on Oct. 7 and quickly got him to Tallahassee for an official visit, hosting him for their game against the Pitt Panthers. It was his first time visiting Tallahassee and allowed him to meet Knighton in person.

He talked to Warchant’s Matt LaSerre about his visit and explained what the two talked about.
“We were watching some of my film, comparing it to other guys, saying stuff he likes, things I need to work on,” he said. “I like the transparency. I like how they practice, so yeah, I feel like it would be a great fit.”
Whitley is ranked as the No. 493 overall player and No. 52 edge in the Rivals industry ranking. He is also the No. 10 plauer from South Carolina.
He is one of several edge targets that they are working to add to their 2026 recruiting class. They recently received a prediction to land Chris Carbin and are also working to flip Kamron Wilson from the Syracuse Orange.
He also took to social media on Sunday night to share photos from the visit, saying he “had a wonderful official visit to (FSU Football) this weekend!!!”
