Thanksgiving travel plans were briefly disrupted for passengers coming through the Pensacola Airport Nov. 26 as the airport’s only working runway was closed.
A notice from United Airlines to passengers of a plane expected to land in Pensacola Wednesday said their plane had been diverted to Mobile, Alabama because a disabled aircraft was blocking the runway. An airline pilot on the diverted flight told passengers that the aircraft stuck on the Pensacola runway suffered an apparent landing gear malfunction.
Pensacola Airport Director Matt Coughlin told the News Journal that a plane had a “mishap” at the intersection of two runways, leading the airport to close down tarmac traffic “out of an abundance of caution.”
Coughlin said no one was hurt, and all runways are back open. According to Pensacola Airport’s website, multiple inbound flights were delayed.
