Nokomis runner, 63, killed while trying to cross intersection: FHP

A 63-year-old Nokomis man was struck and killed while out for a night run on Sept. 19 in Nokomis.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Mission Valley Boulevard and Pinto Circle, Florida Highway Patrol report said.

Troopers said the man had been running along Pinto Circle and tried to cross the travel lanes just as a southbound pickup approached the intersection.

The truck hit the runner, who died at the scene, state troopers said. His name has not been released.

So far this year, Sarasota County has recorded 4,461 crashes, including 25 fatalities and more than 3,000 injuries, state crash data shows. Manatee County has reported 4,059 crashes with 31 deaths.

The crash remains under investigation by FHP.
