The Jacksonville Jaguars’ long-term plans for Travis Hunter have not changed.
The team announced last week that Hunter underwent knee surgery on an LCL injury he sustained in practice. He will not return this season.
He is expected to return to full football activities within six months.
When Liam Coen was asked if Hunter would continue playing both cornerback and wide receiver upon his return, he was noncommittal.
However, according to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars will continue utilizing Hunter as a two-way player moving forward.
“Sources say Jacksonville does, in fact, plan to continue to deploy Hunter as their top wide receiver and matchup cornerback moving forward,” Rapoport wrote.
Prior to the Jaguars’ bye week, Hunter had a career day on offense as he took on a larger role. He ended up playing 67 of the Jaguars’ offensive snaps against the Rams and led the team in targets, receptions, and yards.
This expanded role was expected to be the norm for Hunter at wide receiver moving forward, had the injury not happened.
Hunter will finish his rookie season having caught 28-of-43 passes for 298 yards with a touchdown on offense.
Defensively, he made 14 tackles, while allowing nine receptions on 15 targets for only 96 yards with two pass breakups, according to PFF.
Hunter played 162 defensive snaps compared to 323 on offense.
