Lonni Alameda and the FSU softball team have landed a commitment from four-star catcher Layna Ayala, who is from Melbourne, Florida, and one of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class.
“I am extremely blessed to announce that I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at Florida state University,” she wrote on social media. “Thank you to everyone who is helped me throughout this journey! Go Noles!”
Ayala is coming off a phenomenal sophomore season for Melbourne High School, hitting .495 with a .562 on-base percentage and a 1.275 slugging percentage. She finished the season with 16 home runs, 10 triples, 46 RBI, and 40 runs in 91 at-bats.
She is ranked as the No. 18 overall player and No. 5 catcher by Softball America. She is also the No. 1 prospect from Florida.
Ayala is the second commitment of FSU’s 2027 recruiting class, joining three-star pitcher Harleigh Price. They are in the mix for several more elite prospects who have visited campus or plan on doing so.
