Documentary about Palm Beacher First Lady Melania Trump to be released in January

A documentary about Palm Beach resident First Lady Melania Trump now has a release date.

“Melania” will arrive in theaters in the U.S. on Jan. 30, Amazon MGM Studios said. After its theatrical run, “Melania” will stream exclusively on Amazon’s Prime Video service.

Amazon also provided a “first look” image from the film, which shows Trump gazing out the window of a car toward what appears to be Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach.

The documentary was announced in January ahead of the inauguration of Melania Trump’s husband, President Donald Trump, who began his second term in the White House on Jan. 20. The film is directed by Brett Ratner. Melania Trump is an executive producer.

Amazon MGM Studios paid $40 million for the documentary rights, Variety reported.

The film takes place in the 20 days leading up to the 2024 general election and follows Melania Trump as she traveled to Palm Beach, New York City and Washington, D.C., Amazon said.

“Step inside Melania Trump’s world as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and reenters public life with her family,” the company said.

Filmmakers are completing the film and a three-part documentary series that “will dive even deeper into Melania Trump’s life during the 20 days before the inauguration,” Amazon said.

It’s unclear how much of the documentary or the accompanying series will be filmed in Palm Beach, where Trump and her husband President-elect Donald Trump reside at their Mar-a-Lago Club on South Ocean Boulevard.

The 55-year-old First Lady last year released her best-selling memoir, “Melania,” which was published by Skyhorse Publishing.

This is the first feature film project for Ratner since 2017, following allegations of sexual misconduct against him, which his attorneys denied. He previously directed blockbuster films including “Rush Hour,” “Rush Hour 2,” “Red Dragon” and “X-Men: The Last Stand.”
