Blue Angels' Jacksonville air show appearance in doubt amid US government shutdown

As the U.S. government shutdown continues, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstration team will not fly at upcoming air shows due to the lapse in funding.

The Blues are scheduled to fly on October 25 and 26 in Jacksonville Beach for the Sea and Sky Air Show. However, according to the showrunners, the team will not be allowed to fly unless the government shutdown is lifted and the government resumes normal operations.

As of now, the decision remains on standby.

When and where is the air show in Jacksonville in 2025?

If the government shutdown gets lifted, the Blue Angels are scheduled to perform on October 25 and 26 at the Jacksonville Beach Sea and Sky Air Show. Whether the Blue Angels fly or not, the air show will continue, a city spokesperson said, with a full lineup of civilian acts.

Which Blue Angel shows were canceled recently?

Two weeks ago, the Blue Angels were scheduled to fly in the California International Airshow in Salinas, Calif., Oct. 4 and 5. But those plans were scrapped when the U.S. government shut down at midnight Oct. 1.

“Dear Salinas Airshow Fans, The 44th Annual California International Airshow will go on this weekend,” the show’s official Facebook account announced. “Unfortunately, due to the government shutdown, the US military will not be allowed to participate in the California International Airshow.”

Will the Blue Angels fly in the San Francisco Fleet Week?

As of Oct. 8, the Blue Angels are scheduled to perform Oct. 11-12 in the San Francisco Fleet Week on Oct. 11 and 12 — but only if the government shutdown is lifted.

Here’s what we know.

“The Blue Angels have confirmed that they are ready and willing to participate in Fleet Week … if the government reopens,” San Francisco Fleet Week’s official Facebook page announced. “Once the impasse is resolved, all military participation will be permitted.”

The Pensacola News Journal reached out to the Blue Angels and multiple U.S. Navy departments for information regarding the Blue Angels’ remaining air show season and Pensacola practices but has not received a response.

Blue Angels’ remaining scheduled practices

As of Oct. 8, the Blue Angels continue to hold practices daily from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at their home base at Naval Air Station Pensacola. However, the practices remain closed to civilians due to the government shutdown, unless you have a government ID or a dependent ID (meaning spouse of someone in the military)
