The Jacksonville Jaguars just played their second overtime game of the season, and for the second time, they emerged with a victory. This time, they took down the Arizona Cardinals, 27-24, thanks to a Cam Little field goal in overtime.
Turnovers nearly cost the Jaguars the game, as quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw three interceptions and lost a fumble that resulted in a scoop and score for the Cardinals.
Tight end Brenton Strange and wide receiver Parker Washington led the charge for Jacksonville’s pass catchers, and Jakobi Meyers caught his first touchdown of his Jaguars career.
Let’s take a look at the top takeaways from Jacksonville’s Week 12 performance:
Trevor Lawrence struggles to hold onto the football
Lawrence was responsible for all four of Jacksonville’s turnovers against the Cardinals, which stalled the offense and cost the Jaguars points and scoring opportunities.
Lawrence threw three interceptions and lost a fumble on a strip sack that was returned for the Cardinals’ first touchdown of the day.
His first interception came while the Jaguars were knocking on the doorstep, looking to score. On the six-yard line, Lawrence threw an interception in the back of the endzone to Garrett Williams. The Jaguars had a chance to take a 14-0 lead, but Lawrence’s turnover squandered the opportunity.
Then, late in the third quarter, Lawrence threw his second interception of the game, throwing a short pass intended for Meyers that was intercepted by Akeem Davis-Gaither.
Lawrence’s third interception of the game came in the fourth quarter, as Budda Baker jumped a deep ball to make a diving interception, which would set up a 39-yard touchdown reception for Gred Dortch, and the Cardinals retook the lead 21-17.
Travis Etienne Jr. leads the rushing game
Etienne Jr. finished the game with 12 carries for 77 yards, while notching three receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown.
He recorded a 45-yard breakaway run in the first quarter, which set up his 15-yard touchdown reception to put the Jaguars on the board, 7-0.
He was the Jaguars’ leading rusher, recording 80 of the Jaguars’ 129 rushing yards, and tallied the third most receptions and fourth most receiving yards on the team.
Parker Washington and Brenton Strange are Lawrence’s top targets
Washington finished the game with five receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown — the touchdown that would ensure that the Jaguars would see overtime.
He recorded the second-longest catch of the day for the Jaguars – a 25-yard reception.
Only Strange recorded more receiving yards (93), on five receptions, and his 30-yard reception was the longest of the game.
Strange caught 100% of his targets, while Washington caught 71% of his seven targets.
Washington was evaluated for a concussion and cleared to return to the game.
Defense combined for six sacks
The Jaguars’ defense tallied six sacks against Jacoby Brissett, including one in overtime, which helped stall the Cardinals’ offense.
Dennis Gardeck and Devin Lloyd each tallied 1.5 sacks, while Josh Hines-Allen, DaVon Hamilton, and Antonio Johnson tallied a sack each.
Jacksonville notched 15 quarterback hits and finished with 11 tackles for a loss, and did a good job of bringing pressure to Arizona’s offensive line.
Andrew Wingard and Foyesade Oluokun each finished the game with 10 total tackles and a tackle for loss each.
