On Sunday, September 28, Al Horford committed to a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors. However, the veteran forward is unlikely to sign his contract with the franchise until Jonathan Kuminga’s contractual standoff is resolved. That is expected to happen on Wednesday, October 1, when the deadline for Kuminga to sign his qualifying offer will come due.
Horford is a huge addition to Steve Kerr’s rotation. His positional versatility, high-level defense, floor spacing and veteran leadership will all have a big impact on the franchise’s chances of success. Furthermore, he and Draymond Green will likely form an elite front-court partnership, while the duo could split their minutes to ensure both stay fresh throughout the season.
Nonetheless, the Warriors will likely still be focused on Kuminga until he makes a decision regarding his future. In a September 28 episode of “The Basketball Bulletin” podcast, host Trevor Lane explored how Horford can improve the Warriors’ roster and what his commitment to the franchise means for Kuminga in terms of his contract status and future role.
