Last week, USC dropped out of the college football AP Poll following their 34-32 loss to Illinois. With the Trojans off this week, they once again remained outside of the top 25 in this week’s rankings.
Interestingly, USC did receive more than twice as many votes as last week, rising from 22 to 46. However, the Trojans actually remained sixth among “others receiving votes” votes in the rankings, behind Cincinnati, Texas, Penn State, Utah, and Nebraska.
Meanwhile, Illinois, who defeated USC last week, moved up five spots to No. 17 following their win over Purdue. The Illini continuing to win would be a good thing for the Trojans, as it would make their loss in Champaign look more respectable.
The other good news for USC is that it will not have to wait very long for an opportunity to get back into the rankings. If the Trojans can beat No. 15 Michigan—which rose five spots after defeating Wisconsin—at home this week, they will almost certainly re-enter the top 25.
