The Los Angeles Rams have looked unstoppable as of late. Through 11 weeks, the 9-2 Rams led the NFC and have the No. 6 scoring offense and the No. 1 scoring defense. They’re also on a six-game winning streak.
This is all well and good, but the advanced metrics also back up the Rams’ dominance in 2025.
L.A. ranks as the No. 1 overall team defensive-adjusted over average (DVOA), according to Aaron Schatz of FTN Fantasy. This means that the Rams have both the best offense and defense when every play is calculated against an average defense.
Not only are the Rams No. 1 heading into Week 13, but they’re the No. 10 DVOA team through 11 games overall since 1978. For reference, five of the nine teams ahead of the Rams won the Super Bowl that season, including the 1998 Denver Broncos, who ranked third. The 2007 New England Patriots rank No. 1, and they lost in the Super Bowl.
This is good company to keep for L.A. heading into the final six weeks of the season. They’re clearly playing at a level becoming of a true contender in the NFL with a great offense and defense.
Coincidentally, per Schatz, the only other team in the history of the current DVOA to finish the season No. 1 on both offense and defense was the 2001 Rams, who lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl that season. Schatz also noted that the Rams “have the lowest game-to-game variance in the league.”
“This week against Tampa Bay had 80.8% DVOA, but the Rams have only one other game above 50% (Week 4, 27-20 over the Colts). However, the Rams have been above 20% in every single game, including their two losses. They come out and play well every single week. No stinkers yet, and not even any average performances.”
Again, this all bodes well for the Rams if they can keep it up. There are a few tough games left on the schedule (such as a battle with the Detroit Lions and a rematch with the Seattle Seahawks), but the Rams have already proven they can stick with the best of the bunch. They just need to keep winning, now.
