The wait for the Golden State Warriors to sign a free agent is officially over.
After a long and quiet offseason that included multiple rumors about potential signings, the Warriors have reportedly locked up their starting center for the 2025-26 season with the signing of veteran big man Al Horford. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Horford is the first free agent to land in Golden State. The former Boston Celtics center has been linked to the Warriors for most of the offseason.
Shams Charania of ESPN reported Horford has committed to a multi-year deal with the Warriors. According to Charania, Horford gave the Warriors a verbal commitment on Sunday. Horford’s financial terms will be finalized following restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga’s decision.

Horford played seven of the last nine seasons with the Boston Celtics, with stops in Philadelphia and Oklahoma City during that stretch. In 2024-25, Horford played 60 games, averaging nine points on 42.3% shooting from the field to go along with 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
Horford gives the Warriors a stretch big man, shooting 36.3% from beyond the arc last season. Horford has made 108 or more 3-pointers in each of the last three seasons.
The veteran big man is a five-time All-Star with his most recent All-Star appearance coming in 2017-18. Horford also notched a spot on the All-Defensive team in 2017-18.
Horford will likely slide into the starting lineup, giving the Warriors a tough defensive frontcourt alongside Draymond Green.
