The Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay and Les Snead are among the winningest head coach and general manager duos in NFL history.
With the team’s 34-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, McVay and Snead became the 15th-winningest pair of all-time. Their 97th career win together (regular and postseason combined) passed John Beake and Dan Reeves of the Denver Broncos, who had won 96 games from 1984 to 1992. Those two had John Elway under center most of the time.
This type of partnership only works when you combine sensational coaching with great draft classes and a star quarterback.
The Rams have had that during the past nine years of McVay and Snead. Say what you want about Jared Goff, but he won games with McVay. The same obviously goes for Matthew Stafford, who won a Super Bowl and is in the midst of a career year for L.A. The rest of the Rams’ roster over the years has included stars brought in via trades and, more recently at least, drafted players that turned into stars.
McVay and Snead aren’t even close to being done yet. While there’s been talk of McVay retiring for years, he’s still only 39 years old and could continue to coach for a while if the Rams remain a powerhouse. And with Snead running the front office, that always looks like it’ll be the case.
