Marshall Faulk hired as HBCU head coach after stint under Deion Sanders

Former St. Louis Rams legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk is getting his first opportunity as a college head coach. According to Jordan Schultz, Faulk has accepted the head coaching job at HBCU Southern University. It’s a three-year deal with an option.

Faulk worked under Deion Sanders at Colorado this season, coaching the Buffaloes’ running backs. It was his first coaching job at the college level and quickly turned it into a chance to become a head coach, just as Sanders did in 2020 when he was hired as Jackson State’s head coach.

Faulk, a four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion with the Rams during his seven years in St. Louis, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He won NFL MVP in 2000 and was named the Offensive Player of the Year three seasons in a row from 1999-2001.

He’s tied with Todd Gurley for the most rushing touchdowns in franchise history with 58 and ranks third in rushing yards (6,959) in Rams history. He’s even 12th in team history with 4,071 receiving yards despite being a running back and only playing seven years with the Rams.

Southern University is 1-10 this season, with their lone win coming against Mississippi Valley State in August, 34-29.
